AIFM Reporting – Technical Guidance

CSSF

CSSF Version 1.7 – July 2024

1. Overview & Version History

This technical guidance, updated to Version 1.7 in July 2024, builds on previous iterations to reflect evolving ESMA rules and CSSF procedures. Key changes include:

  • Implementation of ESMA’s revised technical standards (Comm. 15 Nov 2023)

  • Deployment of API (S3) and eDesk submission methods

  • Discontinuation of older external transmission channels

2. Technical Specifications & File Format

The CSSF follows ESMA's guidelines for reporting via XML files based on XSD schemas:

  • AIFM reporting file (AIFMD_DATMAN_V1.n.xsd)

  • AIF reporting file (AIFMD_DATAIF_V1.n.xsd)
All text fields must be completed in English. Specific Luxembourg implementation details apply—e.g., province code “LU”, and the AIFM National Code formatted as A followed by eight digits with leading zeros.

3. Transmission Methods

From July 1, 2024, only the following submission methods are authorized:

  • API (S3) — available since November 2, 2023

  • eDesk platform — available since January 31, 2024
Use of old external transmission channels is no longer allowed.

4. Submission and Feedback Process

After submission, CSSF returns feedback in the form of:

  • Positive acknowledgements

  • Error files (including those flagged by ESMA)
A minimum of three positive feedback files must be received for validation completion. If issues arise, the AIFM must liaise with service providers or contact CSSF at aifm_reporting@cssf.lu
